Joe Calendino is a former Hells Angel Nomad and the co-founder and Executive Director of Yo Bro Yo Girl Youth Initiative. A recovering addict, he has made it his life’s mission to support at-risk youth through programs designed to prevent them from following a path of gangs, drugs, and violence. In 2014, Calendino was honoured for his work with the Courage to Come Back Award from Coast Mental Health. Along with a business degree, Calendino holds a Substance Use Certificate from the Justice Institute of British Columbia. He published his first memoir, To Hell and Back, in 2017.
Born and raised in Trail, British Columbia, Canada, Gary Little attended the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana, and the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. He served as a high school teacher, counsellor, administrator and Associate Superintendent in Vancouver public schools, as well as the founding Director of the International Baccalaureate Educator Stream at The University of British Columbia. Together with co-author and former student Joe Calendino, Gary wrote To Hell and Back and The Longest Road. “More than anything else, I wanted to share Joe’s story to help others find hope in the midst of some of the greatest challenges in life, addiction being the focus of our most recent book.”
